The Cassowary Coast invites you to relax and unwind.

 In Tropical North Queensland

Tropical North Queensland’s Cassowary Coast of is full of natural encounters of the intimate kind. Check out the area’s diversity, including exploring the enchanting laid-back town of Mission Beach. Discover the natural beauty of nearby Dunk and Hinchinbrook Islands, and the spectacular gorges and waterfalls of the Tully River.

Mission Beach lies halfway between Cairns and Townsville and is actually four beach villages linked by 14 kilometres of wide, golden beach. Expect to find an eclectic mix of shops, galleries, restaurants, and cafes with the calm ocean at its front door and a rainforest at the back. The pace is slow.

The aboriginal people used to call nearby Dunk Island the island of peace and plenty. With plenty of peaceful beaches and walking tracks it’s a great place to camp.

One of the few things that moves fast around the Cassowary Coast is the 133-kilometre long Tully River known year-round for white water rafting tours. Tully falls plunge 800 metres before the river runs out into the Coral Sea.

The Cassowary Coast, like its namesake the Cassowary, it’s powerful, it’s colourful, and it’s waiting for you.

Excellent place to enjoy a romantic weekend without the kids. Heaps of good restaurants, cafes and bars. The beach is great and a swim at Bingil Bay Beach is a must.

I am travelling around Oz for a few months and stayed at Mission Beach for 2 days but could have easily spent longer there. The beach is so quiet and nice to relax on. Get up early to see the stunning sun rise. It’s a great place to visit and stay.
